Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual worlds are relatively a new phenomenon. They carry the ability to seemingly transport the mind and eyes to a completely new world, all the while we remain sitting by our computers. These new worlds seem to bring new experiences that help people in the real world. This is evident in the Wall Street Journal article "Avatar II: The Hospital" where it details the fact that young nurses have been using the virtual world of Second Life to prepare them for the stressful real world of working at the hospital. That benefits the young inexperienced people that will soon have to carry the burden of actually trying to save the lives of people. Another benefit seems to include the fact that it transports a person to another reality and that serves as an escape from reality. This idea is detailed in the article from the New York Times called "In Room 100, It's Sid and Nancy All Over Again." This article explains to us the benefit of transporting your mind as it tells us the story of Stanley Bard and how he was transported back to the chelsea hotel through the Second Life virtual reality game. Now there are some drawbacks as the virtual reality leaves one stranded on their chair and are relatively inactive for the duration of the stay in the virtual world.
Virtual reality also does foster creativity as it allows the mind to wonder a whole different world that can spark innovative ideas and help influence the mind in ways that was never thought possible. The future of virtual worlds might have already started as the future seems to be the more immersive technology of VR headsets. These headsets allow for the user to physically move around in the world. This provides a more immersive experience that would make a person feel as if they are actually there. At this point it wouldn't be a surprise if they start coming out with virtual realities that somehow transports your mind to a different universe. It sounds like a science fiction movie premise but it soon might become our reality.
